Vacant Home Tax in Region Of Peel
The Vacant Unit Rebate Program in the Region of Peel was a program that provided rebates to property owners who had vacant commercial or industrial properties. However, as of January 1, 2022, this program has been eliminated.
Instead, the Region of Peel has implemented a new Vacant Unit Tax, which imposes a tax on properties that are vacant for more than 90 consecutive days in a calendar year. The Vacant Unit Tax applies to commercial and industrial properties in the cities of Brampton and Mississauga, as well as the town of Caledon, within the Region of Peel. The tax is applicable to properties that have been vacant for at least 90 consecutive days, and the rate is set at 1% of the property’s current assessed value.
